terms of use
effective 11 oct 2026
these are the rules for using joygiver. by signing up, or by giving through joygiver, you agree to them. they're short on purpose; our privacy policy explains what we do with your data.
what joygiver is
joygiver is a naira wishlist and group-gifting app for nigeria. you make a list for a moment (a birthday, a wedding, a new baby, anything), add wishes, and share it. people chip in towards a wish, gift it whole, or give together as a group. anyone can give from the app or on the web, with or without an account. friends can also chat, and send each other money in their chats. payments and payouts go through paystack.
your account
- you must be 18 or older to use joygiver.
- your account is yours alone, tied to your phone number. keep your phone, your sign-in codes and your withdrawal pin to yourself: you're responsible for what happens on your account.
- tell the truth on joygiver: about who you are, and about what a list is for.
gifts go to the list owner
- money given to a list belongs to the list's owner, and to any partner the owner adds to the list, who can withdraw it too. it's a gift: what the owner does with it is up to them.
- the smallest gift is ₦100.
- a secret gift hides the giver's name from the list owner, as our privacy policy explains. we still know who sent it.
- a shop wish is a gift towards a product. its price is locked for 90 days from when it's added. when it's caught, the owner can take the product, or take the money as cash instead (see fees).
money in chats
in a chat with friends, or a group chat, you can send money, ask for money, offer to cover part of someone's wish, sell something to a friend, or start a pot that people chip into.
- money sent to you, a request someone pays you, chip-ins to your pot and the price of something you sold land in your own joygiver wallet. it's yours, and you withdraw it like the money on your lists (see payouts).
- it's paid through paystack, by bank transfer, ussd or card, and the payer pays exactly the amount. paying from your joygiver balance isn't available yet.
- an offer on a wish, once you both agree and it's paid, is a gift on that wish like any chip-in: it goes to the list's owner and partners, and the rules in "gifts go to the list owner" apply.
- a sale between friends is between the buyer and the seller: joygiver doesn't sell, check or deliver the item. to protect the buyer, we hold the money until the buyer taps "i got it", or until 7 days after they paid if they haven't reported a problem. then it goes to the seller's wallet.
- if the buyer reports a problem in that time, the money stays held and our team decides, from what both of you tell us, whether it goes to the seller or back to the buyer.
- a sale the seller cancels after it's paid is refunded to the buyer in full. money that arrives for something already settled (a request someone else paid first, a pot that has closed) goes back to whoever paid it, in full.
- only sell things that are yours to sell. don't use money in chats for loans, betting, or anything harmful or against the law.
fees
- giving
- ₦0. a giver pays exactly the gift; joygiver pays the payment provider's fee.
- money in chats
- ₦0. the payer pays exactly the amount; joygiver pays the payment provider's fee.
- withdrawing to your bank
- ₦0. joygiver pays the transfer cost.
- taking a shop wish as cash
- 3% of the amount, and only then. there's no fee when no seller can meet the locked price.
payouts
- payouts only go to a bank account in your own name. when you add one, we check the name your bank gives back, through paystack, against your name on joygiver; if it doesn't match, a person on our team reviews it before that account can be used.
- the smallest withdrawal is ₦100. you confirm each one with your withdrawal pin.
- our team reviews every withdrawal before it's sent. a payout above ₦500,000 needs two yeses from our team and, on a list with partners, the other partner's yes.
- after you change your phone number, payouts pause for 24 hours.
- we can hold or decline a payout while a fraud check, a report or a hold on the account is open, or when payouts are paused for everyone.
refunds and late money
- a list closes at the end of the 14th day after its date. money that arrives after a list has closed, or after a wish was already gifted whole, goes back to whoever paid, in full. we ask paystack for the refund within 24 hours, and banks usually take 1–3 working days to land it.
- when a list closes with money on wishes that didn't reach their goal, the owner chooses: keep it as cash, move it to another wish, or refund those givers. with no choice in 7 days, it's kept as cash.
- when a group gift isn't full 48 hours after its end date, the owner chooses to keep it or refund it. with no choice in 7 days, it's kept as cash.
- if you think a payment went wrong, chat with us in the app and we'll look into it.
acceptable use
don't use joygiver to:
- run a scam, or make a list for a moment that isn't real;
- pretend to be someone else, or use someone else's photo;
- raise money for anything harmful or against the law;
- bully, harass, or post hateful or adult content;
- ask people to pay you outside joygiver;
- move money for someone else, or use another person's identity or bank account.
you can report a list or a person from the app. we review reports within 24 hours. when 3 different people report the same list or person within 7 days, payouts pause while we look. when someone breaks these rules, we can hide lists, hold or decline payouts, freeze wallets or close accounts.
closing your account
you can close your account at any time in the app, once no money or case is still open. delete your account explains how, and what's kept.
